Code of Conduct
Code of Conduct
We, the organizers of the Northern Lights Deep Learning conference and winter school, want to ensure that NLDL is a space that protects and encourages the open exchange of ideas and considerate scientific debate. This requires a community and an environment that recognizes, respects and upholds the innate worth and dignity of every person.
By attending NLDL, the associated events, and the inter school, all participants (including organizers, reviewers, speakers, media, sponsors, and volunteers at NLDL, the associated events and the winter school) agree with this Code of Conduct both during the event and on official communication channels, including social media.
Violations of our code of conduct include, but are not limited to:
Discrimination based on gender, gender identity and expression, age, sexual orientation, physical or intellectual disability, physical appearance, pregnancy, medical conditions, race, ethnicity, religious (or nonreligious) affiliation, national origin, ancestry politics or other personal characteristics
Intimidation, harassment, bullying, personal attacks, demeaning speech or vulgar exchanges
Sexual harassment, harassing photographing or recording, inappropriate physical contact, stalking, following, unwelcome attention, public vulgar exchanges, derogatory name-calling, and diminutive characterizations
Use of images, activities, or other materials that are of a sexual, racial, or otherwise offensive nature that may create an inappropriate or toxic environment
Disorderly, boisterous, or disruptive conduct including fighting, coercion, theft, damage to property, or any mistreatment towards participants
Repeated and/or sustained disruption of talks or other events
Advocating war, aggression or the use of force
Unsolicited commercial advertising
Scientific misconduct including fabrication, falsification, or plagiarism of paper submissions or research presentations, including posters.
Organizers will enforce this Code, and it is expected that all participants will cooperate to help ensure a safe and inclusive environment for everyone. Violations of the code of conduct will not be tolerated. If you experience any violation of the code of conduct or if you have any other concerns or questions about it, please email us at elisabeth.wetzer@uit.no as soon as possible. All reports will be treated as strictly confidential. Your complaint should include the approximate date and time of each incident you wish to report, the name of the person or persons involved in each incident, the name of any person or persons who witnessed each incident and a full description of what occurred in each incident.
Violations of the code of conduct are taken seriously, and the organizers may take what they consider suitable actions in response, which can range from a verbal warning or ejection from an event to permanent expulsion from future NLDL events.
This Code of Conduct policy must never be used to bring fraudulent or malicious complaints against participants. If it is determined that any participant has knowingly made false statements regarding an allegation of violence, bullying or personal harassment, immediate corrective action will be taken as appropriate.
